Today NY Gov. Elliot Spitzer was implicated in a prostitution ring. To make matters worse, he ordered the prostitute in NY and had her brought to DC which invokes the the Mann Act making it a Federal crime when normally hooking up with cash results only in a State Crime. NYtimes.com

I was watching Fox News for a little while. By far the most entertaining coverage. You get the sense that Christmas has come again for these Republicans. Its been a while since a Democratic was caught with their pants down and Fox is excited. This is additionally so since Spitzer not only is a Democrat but also went after corruption in Wall St. and even went after prostitution rings himself as the state’s attorney general. The best part of the coverage though was their trying for find out the implication this could have on the national election. It seems pretty far-fetched that Spitzer’s being an idiot will translate into a victory for John McCain…but hey let Fox enjoy this one–it’s been a while.

CNN took a bizarre angle. When discussing whether Spitzer would step down as Governor they instead decided to play up how wonderful it would be that the would-be Governor David Paterson is blind. While there is no doubt that it would be a wonderful story for a blind man to over come adversity and beat the odds it does seem very bizarre that CNN wants to divert attention away from the real story.

MSNBC had relatively fair coverage although I turned off because Tucker Carlson started talking and it’s hard to handle a man in a bow tie talking about sex.

The best coverage as always was Slate.com who decided to ignore the news part of the story and instead investigated just what types of sexual acts are legal and which aren’t. Check it out: What Can You Pay For.
