    Hi
Searching for images of trip hammers (used to make edge tools) I came across several of the Triphammer Falls, and the CU Hydraulic Lab. What a wonderful structure – further searches and images showed its decline, with the end wall missing – freeze-thaw damage no doubt. Sadly just seen the images of its final collapse in 2009 – what a criminal act to allow such a majestic structure to decline so. I note demolition of the remaining structure and clean up is estimated at $1 to $1.5 million (I bet it ends up at least 2x to 3x that). What a shame that the money was not spent on restoring it…
Water power gave way to steam, which in turn gave way to electricity – but the most environmentally clean electicity comes from hydro-electric power. Small scale plants like that at CU are probably the way forward – a lost opportunity to study and develop small scale renewable energy sources, turbine design etc…. In the UK, we are investing in small scale plants to replace old derelict water mills – they are cost effective and profitable. What about the US getting its act together????
