David Plouffe Will Be the Class of 2009’s Convocation Speaker

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Breaking: Guy with funny last name (above) will drone on for a number of minutes in front of a bunch of hungover college kids on Sat, May 23. He apparently doesn’t appreciate the grammatical intricacies of the dash — and neither do we! — so we’ll save the commentary for more qualified commentators and just repost the notification email:

Dear Seniors,

On behalf of the 2009 Convocation Committee, I am pleased to announce that Mr. David Plouffe, Chief Campaign Manager of Obama for America, President Barack Obama’s historic presidential campaign, will headline the Class of 2009’s Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, May 23, 2009.

Our committee sought an individual who has had a profound impact on the society that our class has been prepared to enter. Mr. Plouffe was the mastermind behind one of the most significant and groundbreaking elections in our nation’s history.  His insights and leadership helped transform a little known state senator from Illinois to the leader of the free world.

An Elegy to JuicyCampus

No longer. D:
No longer. D:
Breaking: JuicyCampus.com is shutting down tonight at midnight! Because — as stated in a press release by founder Matt Ivester — “exponential growth outpaced our ability to muster the resources needed to survive this economic downturn.” Mr. Ivester was surprisingly real in the release, and his closing statement actually kinda touched me. Enough to include it in a block quote!

On behalf of everyone here at JuicyCampus, I would like to thank all of our users for reading, contributing to, and telling your friends about the site.  And I’d like to thank everyone who has engaged in meaningful discussion about online privacy and internet censorship.  JuicyCampus has raised issues that have passionate advocates on both sides, and I hope that dialogue will continue.  While there are parts of JuicyCampus that none of us will miss – the mean-spirited posts and personal attacks – it has also been a place for the fun, lighthearted gossip of college life.  I hope that is how it is remembered.

After the jump, a couple of friends and I eulogize our fallen cyber-flibbertigibbet in an elegy. And the press release in full and Shutdown FAQ from the JuicyCampus Blog itself.

National News: Governer of 47th Most Populous State Gets McCain VP Nod

Overcompensating
Overcompensating
Republican blowhard John McCain announced that Alaska governor Sarah Palin will be his running mate in the 2008 Presidential Election. Is he trying to court disillusioned Hillary fanatics, a good deal of whom are female? More importantly, why are Alaska and Delaware, the 47th and 45th most populous states in the union, in the national spotlight? Everyone knows Delaware doesn’t exist. And Alaska? You know what they say about states with big land masses.
