An Important Cause to Support for Gays and Their Allies

So, this might just get national attention and I can still pre-empt the Daily Sun, so here’s something my friend Chris Donohoe send to me. Chris is a really nice guy, and — sorry dude — we’ve pretty much known he was gay since freshman year. In any case, he is a gay man of faith and that’s something that the religious group he was involved with couldn’t learn to tolerate:

Tomorrow (Thursday, April 23) an article will run in the Cornell Daily Sun. It will showcase the following information.

At the beginning of this academic year I (Chris Donohoe) was asked to step down from my leadership position with a religious organization (Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship) on campus after coming out of the closet. Although the university is taking aggressive action to address this injustice, it is time for the LGBT community and its allies to unite.

This is more than a slap in the face to one individual, this is a slap in the face to the entire LGBT community–especially those of faith. Chi Alpha is basically saying that my sexuality–along with the sexualities of every other LGBT community member–is not legitimate in the eyes of God.

Consequently, we have planned a candlelight demonstration the evening of Friday, April 24. All members of the Cornell and Ithaca community are encouraged to attend this peaceful demonstration. We will gather in front of McGraw Hall on the Arts Quad from 7:15 until 7:45pm as members of Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship gather inside the building for their Friday night meeting. The event will last only 30 minutes.

Who: The LGBT community and its allies
What: A candlelight demonstration
When: Friday, April 24, 7:15pm-7:45pm
Where: On the Arts Quad in front of McGraw Hall
Why: To show that the Cornell and Ithaca Community is unified in its efforts to promote equal rights for all people.

There’s quite a lot to do this weekend, that is, if your cash-strapped ass isn’t hurting too much from the recesh. Here’s CornellWatch’s picks:

Friday, Feb 27th

Big Red Relief Concert. 7:30pm, Bailey Hall.

Come see performances from some of CU’s crowd-pleasingest groups, including Bhangra (Indian dance-y fun stuff), Cayuga’s Waiters (crooners of “We Didn’t Go to Harvard”), and Absolute Zero (gravity-defying break-dancers). Tickets $9 at baileytickets.com. All benefits go to Action Against Hunger, a nonprofit dedicated to alleviating global starvation and poverty.

Saturday, Feb 28th

Luda and Shawnna. 8pm, Barton Hall.

Self-explanatory. Tickets are sold out, so expect 5,000+ students, townies, and IC-ers stripper-dancing and staining Cornell’s long-standing tradition of piety and anti-licentiousness.

Filthy Gorgeous. 10pm-2am, WSH Memorial Room.

Come turn the Straight into the Gay for one night only. 200+ queers and friends of the queers will be gayin’/lezzin’/transin’ out with Chi Chi La Rue, famed drag queen/gay porn director. Tickets $5 at the door, $4 if you show your Luda stub.

Sunday, Mar 1st

Australian Art and Culture. 1pm-4pm, Johnson Museum.

Performances, guided tours, children’s activies and regional cuisine, all from Down Under. Free and open to public. (Except to New Zealanders. Stay the fuck out, kiwis.)

CU Music: Cornell Orchestras. 3pm-4:30pm, Bailey Hall.

Cello Concerto with winning cellist from fifth annual Concerto Competition. Free and open to public.

HOT OFF THE PRESSES: The Daily Sun made a landmark move today in deciding to print the columns of two writers known to be flamingly gay on the same exact page. It is unclear whether the publication itself was a heartwarming act of tolerance toward God-forsaken faggots or if the faggots in question, by some mischevious act such as they are wont to engage in, highjacked the electronic and mechanical methods by which the Sun normally engages in printing its newspaper thing. In any case, John-David Brown discussed his sinful acts of sodomy at length in his column, a column that was a narcissistic, self-indulgent litany of ” ‘interesting’ tidbits about [himself].” The one I speak of is number 13, a number known to be in violation of God’s Code because of the pagan belief that it is bad luck: “I have a premature ejactulation problem when I’m on Adderal or trying to be on top. Did you know that about me? I think not.” Did you know that I didn’t want to know that? I think so. And Peter Fritch’s column was equally, if not more, blasphemous:

Fritch, who has publicly acknowledged the fact enjoys being a Sodomite in a godless article about fag hags, scrawled a screed decrying the fact that his pet extracurricular activity, a rag called Kitsch magazine that must clearly have taken time away from praying to God to start talking to us again, was not funded by the SAFC. He even made a snippy comment: “The SAFC does indeed do an astounding job addressing [their mission of quality of life for students], establishing a punitive system that makes Guantanamo Bay look like Aspen.” You know what both of those cities look like to me? SODOM. In any case, it’s clear the pair of them should be sent to Camp Pray the Gay Away, a fine program that has successfully deprogrammed a number of these fabulous robot people that New Yorkers call “The Gays.”

Also: I am the Gay Best Friend in question and I have been told that there is a crucial point of misunderstanding in Number 22: “I’ve slept in bed with my gay best friend numerous times, but we’ve never done anything. Except for early on in our friendship when I forefully mouth-raped him.” The instrument of violation is currently in question, and I must say that by the crude term “mouth-rape” he actually meant “make-out-raped” me. What occurred was that he beseeched me to make out with him for a good five minutes, after which point I begrudgingly complied. Burn in hell, JD. And you too, Peter.
